Bridles

Horse Bridles
The purpose of a bridle is to direct the horse which way you want to go. The bridle consists mainly of leather it has a headpiece with a throatlatch attached, this is to stop the bridle coming off the horse’s head, and holds the other parts in place this fits behind the horse’s ears. There are cheek pieces which run along each side of the horse’s face and hold the bit in place. The bit sits inside the horse’s mouth, it is attached to the cheek pieces and the reins, different bits offer different actions from the horse. Also as part of the bridle there will be a noseband, they are predominantly used to keep the horse’s mouth closed (which offers less resistance) but these days there are many different styles with different benefits. Whether they all work or not is a different matter!! Lastly are the reins which direct and stop the horse, there are many different styles all with different functions; again whether they all work is a different matter.
